Primary Aldosteronism

Abstract
Nearly 30 years have passed since the initial description of primary aldosteronism, a syndrome caused by excessive production of mineralocortiocoid hormones from an adrenal tumor. Hypertension, hypokalemia and excessive production of aldosterone were the original features of the syndrome.
A case of primary aldosteronism is presented with some review of literatures.
This male, 41 year of age. complained of headache and hypertension. The laboratory examination revealed blood pressure 210/110 mmHg, serum potassium concentration 2.6 mEq/L, sodium 145 mEq/ L, plasma renin activity 0.15 ng/ml/hr, serum aldosterone 279.3 pg/ml.
At abdominal approach, a well defined adenoma of the right adrenal was discovered and the gland was removed. Dark yellowish, round adenoma measured 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm.
Postoperatively, patient has felt well. The patient remained normotensive and normokalemic conditions. Serum aldosterone value was returned to normal level.
